The Patuel Longás Building, an iconic work by architect J. Goerlich, located at the prominent intersection of Gran Vía and Ruzafa Street in Valencia, has been the setting for a renovation and interior design project that combines functionality with aesthetic sensitivity.

The intervention was carried out within a classical apartment of irregular layout, preserving its original essence while introducing a renewed contemporary perspective. Undertaking the refurbishment of a residence in this volumetrically complex building — characterized by the coexistence of modern and classical elements — requires engaging in a dialogue with its asymmetries, the condition and materiality of its constructed elements, and the value of preservation as an active component of the contemporary architectural chosen narrative.

El edificio Patuel Longás, obra icónica del arquitecto J. Goerlich, situado en el céntrico cruce de la Gran Vía con la calle Ruzafa en Valencia, ha sido el escenario del proyecto Goerlich.

La intervención se ha desarrollado en una vivienda clásica de planta irregular, preservando su esencia original y dotándola, al mismo tiempo, de una nueva mirada contemporánea. Abordar la reforma de una vivienda en este edificio, volumétricamente complejo y caracterizado por la convivencia de elementos modernos y clásicos, ha supuesto establecer un diálogo con sus asimetrías, con el estado y la materialidad de sus elementos construidos, y con el valor de la preservación como premisa.

After a careful study of the building and the architectural features of the dwelling, a reorganization of the space is proposed, avoiding the excessive compartmentalization of the existing layout while preserving the memory of the original rooms.

Tras un cuidado estudio del edificio y de las características arquitectónicas de la vivienda, se plantea reorganizar el espacio, evitando la excesiva compartimentación de la vivienda existente, pero manteniendo la memoria de los espacios originales. 

A large fireplace serves as a focal point, giving identity and meaning to this generous social area, particularly within the living space. The living room, dining area, kitchen, and breakfast nook form the core of the intervention, which visually expands toward the work and study areas.

Una gran chimenea focaliza y significa esta amplia zona social en su zona de estar. La sala de estar, zona de comer, cocina y desayunador, componen el núcleo de la intervención, el cual se expande visualmente hacia los espacios de trabajo y estudio.

The character of the dwelling is reinforced both by the improvement of the existing spaces and by the restoration of the exterior wooden joinery, preserving the original paneling design by Goerlich.

El carácter de la vivienda se refuerza tanto por la mejoría de los ambientes anteriores como por la recuperación de las carpinterías de madera exteriores con los despieces originales diseñados por Goerlich.
